Stories on Skin: Tattoos and the LA Immigrant Experience

About This Project

Learn about Los Angeles County’s vibrant immigrant population through the most personal of art forms: the tattoo. In a series of virtual programs with renowned tattoo artists and subject specialists, we'll explore the traditional tattoo traditions of LA County's Chicano, Black and African, and AAPI communities. While the motifs, traditions, and techniques vary from cultures to culture, tattoos have always embodied stories, memories, and cultural history. Now, we invite you to share your tattoo story with us. Submit images of your tattoo along with a written narrative of its meaning. Submissions will be reviewed and then posted on our BiblioBoard community collection.
